Saturday was set to be clear blue skies, but with chilly (sub zero) NE wind gusting to force 7.
Sunday was set to be overcast with sleet/snow showers.
I figured that if we sailed to the Yealm (about 7nm from our marina berth) on the Sat, and back on the Sun regardless of what it threw at us, we'd have a memorable trip!
We did, but it turned out the wind wasn't quite as high as predicted. We saw 30kn briefly, but mostly it was 10 to 20kn and annoyingly shifty. And the sleet didn't materialise on the return trip.
Most noticable was the distinct lack of other voyagers on the sea. We saw one other yacht motoring around from Yealm to Plymouth, but other than that it was just the odd mobo. Was good to be the only sail in view.
As we came out of the Yealm on Sunday at around lunchtime the wind was strong and directly behind us. We put out the main on our second lowest reef, and the full jib, goosewinged. Managed 7.4kn at one point! Fantastic.
